Beautiful ones!!
Happy new year! I hope that you are having a good January so far, and know that you can always start again in February if you need to. I am definitely considering it! I haven’t sent an email out for a while, but I am back and this time on Substack!
As you know, I have a podcast - Writing Black Joy - and I created this newsletter as the way to keep up with all things Writing Black Joy throughout the year, so that you can get your fix between seasons, and meet other podcast listeners!
This newsletter is designed to be a faithful partner of the Writing Black Joy podcast, written by me - your host Safiya Robinson. Here you will find book reviews, podcast musings and creative inspiration - no matter what joyful narrative you are creating!
If you are no longer interested in hearing from me, or hearing about the podcast, it’s been so nice to be in your inbox until now, and perhaps I’ll see you again sometime. In the meantime, you can unsubscribe at the end of this email!
And if you are coming along with me for the ride - here is what you can expect!
There will be a new post here weekly whenever the podcast is in season, and outside of that, twice per month.
I love conversation so I look forward to joining you in the comments - as we keep it kind and respectful and have fun chatting about Black Joy!
There will be creative inspiration from me, and if all goes to plan I hope to have guest writers later on this year!
And to top it all off - a new mini series drops on the podcast on Thursday 1st of February! It will be about Writing your inner world.
This is for you if you:
Use writing to tap into your inner world!
Journal! Sketch! Write down your gratitudes! Make lists! Mind maps!
Simply collect beautiful journals and pens but are reluctant to write in them (or is THAT one just me?)
I wanted to explore ideas around how writing can connect you to your inner world and so for the next few weeks, these episodes will be coming to the Writing Black Joy podcast! Join us from February first - every Thursday - so that you can hear new episodes as soon as they drop, and find a new blog post here every Monday in February.
I have often found writing to be a very powerful tool for connection - both with others and with ourselves, and I wanted to explore how we use writing to connect to ourselves. I have some incredible guests which include one of my sisters, as well as past Writing Black Joy guests and a couple of fellow podcasters and we are talking all things journaling. I also talk a bit about how I tap into my own inner world (since I am not much of a journaler), and how you can get started with your own journaling practice.
In addition, there will be new posts here each week in February going deeper on some topics that come up in the podcast, and also a post on how you can go from writing in your journal to sharing your work in the world - if that is something that you wish to do! So there will be lots of activity around here and on the podcast in February!
I am also taking the opportunity to release my first journal - which you can find on Amazon! It is a blank canvas for your creativity with a combination of blank pages for sketching, lined pages for note taking, and dotted bullet grid when you are ready to mix things up! Go check it out at the links below if you crave that new notebook smell, and love that multimedia life.

Or search for Safiya Robinson in your own territory.
Next week, I will be sharing a post about my own journaling experiment that I did some years ago, with an intro to my plans to run my own journaling experiment in February! Let me know below what your journaling routine looks like, or if it is something you would like to try! We could perhaps do it together.
If you aren’t already subscribed, head on over to www.writingblackjoy.com to find a link to your favourite player and hit subscribe so that you don’t miss new episodes when they drop. And share the link with a friend - so that they can listen in too, and also head over here to join the conversation.
Ok!! I’ll see you soon in your inbox and over on Substack!!
Until then - I send you big love from a bigger island.
